Homework Policy

Archway Chandler Homework Policy

In order to encourage responsibility and the importance of being prompt, we are implementing a new school-wide homework policy. This new policy will limit the amount of recess loss and will help the students become more independent with completing their assignments. If a student forgets his/her homework the first day he/she will complete a ‘Missing Homework Slip’, in which he or she will explain why the assignment is missing and when he or she will make up the late assignment. The students can choose to complete the assignment during Lyceum, lunch, recess, or at home on that first day. Parents will sign the first night’s homework slip acknowledging that the assignment is late.  If the student fails to bring in the assignment the second day, he or she will update the ‘Missing Homework Slip’ and will choose to complete the assignment sometime during the school day; completing it at home will no longer be an option. The teachers will be sending home a standard e-mail on the second day of missing homework assignments to inform the parents of the missing assignment, in the event that parents are unaware. If the student were to fail to bring in the assignment the third day the student will call home to his or her parents to explain the problem and ask for help solving it. If the assignment is not turned in on the morning of the fourth day the student will forfeit any credit for the assignment and the assignment will no longer be accepted by the teacher (unless the student chooses to complete the assignment to enhance his or her learning without any credit). Each day that the assignment is incomplete the student will be docked credit, depending on the percentages decided by the grade-level teachers. Our hope with this plan is to help the students grow self-awareness skills and to put the problems in their hands.
